Laminate — 3-tab, T-lock, architectural — plus designer and impact-resistant IR4, wood shakes and shingles, tile, and metal. Not whatever is on the truck.

What it covers

Laminate shingles — 3-tab, T-lock, architectural — plus designer and impact-resistant IR4, wood shakes and shingles, tile, and metal. The roof gets specified to the house, not to whatever is on the truck.

What goes on the house

Dakota publishes what they install. Pick one and it's the same list they published — no upsell dressed up as a spec sheet.

The tear-off

Dakota's own claim about the market: more than half of roofers never remove the whole roof, and call the old felt bonus protection. Dakota strips to the bare deck on every reroof, because plank decking, rot and dead flashings hide under old felt, and every one of those gets replaced, not papered over.

The spec

Their published spec sheet reads like a list of shortcuts other bids leave out. Insurance prices the lowest of three shingle tiers; the difference is in the lines below.

  • 01Six nails per shingle, not four
  • 02Two rows of ice guard for frost protection
  • 03Synthetic underlayment over felt
  • 04Starter course on eaves and rakes for high wind
  • 05Drip edge, gutter apron, valley, step and dormer flashings replaced, never reused
  • 06Venting done right, because it extends the life of the whole roof

Repair first

Their own line: repair first. A leak travels through the roof, the insulation and the rafters before it ever finds your ceiling, so the fix starts at the underlayment, not at a dab of caulk on the shingle where the water showed up. Most roofers would rather sell the replacement. Dakota publishes a repair process with a warranty behind it instead.

Straight bids

When there is no storm and no claim, their published promise is a line-item bid where you choose the tier and level: what shingle, whether a permit gets pulled, whether the old roof comes all the way off per code, which underlayment, which flashings. A single number on a napkin tells you none of that.

Impact resistant

Dakota's own record, in their words: they have never replaced an impact-resistant shingle. Carriers commonly discount premiums for IR4-class roofs, which is the story Paul and Les tell in their testimonial. And their own caveat prints right beside the pitch: no shingle is hail proof.

In their customers' words

The roofing company responded quickly when our heater went out, got our gutters covered, and installed GAF Impact Resistant Shingles. Our insurance dropped about $200 a month.
